Remedies for Throat Infection

Thursday, August 13, 2009

| | | 0 comments

Its raining and the weather is also changed...we find people suffering with throat infection often in this seasons here are few home remedies for relief:

If however, throat infection persists for a long period of time, then we should get ourself checked to ensure that this is not a manifestation of a more dangerous medical illness.

The easiest way to get rid of throat infection is by ensuring that we eat simple food. Stop eating spicy or oily food since this will only aggravate our throat.

We should also stay away from cold drinks and certainly not drink cold water or ice cream. Avoid eating cold food directly from the fridge and take the time to heat it up. Smokers should cut down on smoking till infection clears up.

Gargling with warm water to which a pinch of salt has been added does help in soothing the throat. We can also use a pinch of turmeric which works wonders too. Drinking a cup of hot milk with a pinch of turmeric is another remedy that we can try. Hot water with some lemon juice and honey mixed into it is another very easy but very soothing drink that can work wonders. Ginger tea too is very effective in soothing the throat. We can use pieces from a one inch piece of fresh ginger and add this to hot water. When this boils we can strain it and then drink with some honey or sugar.

Our food should be simple and should be eaten at regular intervals. Resting is another way to ensure that body gets back to normal and should stay in bed. A hot water bottle will help get rid of the chill and keep us warm. Chamomile tea is very effective in brining down the pain and the best thing is that we can take it as often as we like during the day. Garlic is also very effective in treating problems of the throat and nose. Boil one cup of milk and add around four to five cloves of garlic to this. Boil till the milk is reduced to half and then drink this milk. Can add some sweetener if we like.

Chamomile Tea

Chamomile tea is great for relaxation
Chamomile tea is used to reduce stress, promote relaxation and restful sleep, reduce inflammation and more! Chamomile was used thousands of years ago in ancient Egypt, where it was honored for its great curative properties. It was first used in Europe about 1600, to help with insomnia, back pain, rheumatism, neuralgia and nervousness.

Years ago, in both Europe and the United States, chamomile tea was a common cure for “the vapors.” This malady was characterized by fainting, swooning and general anxiety, most often in women. Chamomile grows throughout the world. The blossoms are the part of the plant that is used.

Chamomile is also known as camomile. Other names for this herb include garden chamomile, low chamomile, Roman chamomile and whig plant. Chamomile is used both internally, most often taken as a tea, and externally.

Used as a tea, chamomile is known to relax smooth muscle tissue. In this way, it is useful in such things as calming a nervous stomach and relieving menstrual cramps. The tea is often used to promote relaxation and alleviate stress. External uses of chamomile include reducing inflammation of the skin, soothing hemorrhoids, and relieving toothache. The herb is also added to shampoos to brighten blond hair.

Combined with bittersweet, chamomile may be used as an ointment. In this form, it can be rubbed on the skin and used to treat bruises, callouses, corns and sprains.

Preparation
To make a cup of Chamomile tea it's important to use water that is very hot but not boiling because boiling water can destroy the therapeutic properties of the Chamomile herb. If you prefer using loose dried Chamomile add two teaspoons of it to an individual tea infuser. Add the infuser, or a teabag if you're using this instead, to your cup and pour in the heated water. Let it steep for about five minutes and then it's ready to drink. Some people prefer covering their cup while it's steeping in order to hold in even more healthful properties that may be carried away by the steam

*****
Possible benefits of chamomile:
1. May help regulate menstrual periods.
2. May be good for the kidneys.
3. May be good for spleen health.
4. May help alleviate symptoms of the common cold.
5. May promote relaxation and relieve stress.
6. May help induce sleep.
7. May calm nervous stomach and improve digestion.
8. May soothe skin irritations, including sunburn, heat rash and hemorrhoids.
9. May relieve toothache.
10. May improve bronchitis.
11. May help with bladder troubles.
12. May help to expel worms and other parasites.
13. May improve liver function and relieve jaundice.
14. May be used as a poultice for swelling and pain.
15. May help prevent gangrene.
16. May relieve back pain.
17. May improve rheumatism.
*****

Note: Chamomile should not be used during pregnancy.
Caution: Chamomile is a member of the daisy family of plants, which includes ragweed. Those with allergies to ragweed should avoid the use of chamomile.

*****
Chamomile is a wonderful gift from Nature!
Do not use it as a substitute for medical advice.

Tea has different varieties and its taste varies from its different flavours. For instance, milk tea which is ancient tradition English tea, black tea and green tea which is famous in china and Japan. Green tea has got large amount of antioxidants content and it is best for removing ageing skin. Lemon tea is one of them. So far we are familiar with lemon juice and lemon water; however, lemon tea may sound little new addition to kitchen list. Lemon tea is prepared in the same way how you make green tea. The taste is fabulous; lemon tea blends well with honey instead of sugar.

Preparation goes like this, boil water as you boil it for other tea, heat it up well and add tea leaf and keep it for sometime and let it heat up well. Honey can be added when you pour tea in cup, now slice lemon and put the slice in the cup and allow it to mix well with honey and water. You can also squeeze or take out juice and pour it in tea.

Benefits of drinking lemon tea in the morning, it prevents you from body discomfort and mental tanginess. There are adequate health benefits one can draw if the intake of lemon tea is made regular on daily basis which means every morning. The tea is free from all sides affect like causing gastric if taken in empty stomach. It is the most refreshing flavoure one can think of. Think Positive!!!

This is nice - finding positive out of every negative - which we don't always manage to do.

I am thankful...

1. For the taxes that I pay because it means that I am employed.

2. For the mess to clean after a party because it means that I have been surrounded by friends.

3. For the clothes that fit a little too snug because it means I have enough to eat.

4. For my shadow that watches me work because it means I am out in the sunshine.

5. For a floor that needs mopping, and windows that need cleaning because it means I have a home.

6. For all the complaining I hear about the government because it means that we have freedom of speech.

7. For the parking spot I find at the far end of the parking lot because it means I am capable of walking and that I have been blessed with transportation.

8. For the noise I have to bear from my neighbors because it means that I can hear.

9. For the pile of laundry and ironing because it means I have clothes to wear.

10. For weariness and aching muscles at the end of the day because it means I have been capable of working hard.

11. For the alarm that goes off in the early morning hours because it means that I am still alive.

A neurologist says that if he can get to a stroke victim within 3 hours he can totally reverse the effects of a stroke...totally. He said the trick was getting a stroke recognized, diagnosed, and then getting the patient medically cared for within 3 hours, which is tough.

RECOGNIZING A STROKE

Remember the '3' steps, STR . Read and Learn!
Sometimes symptoms of a stroke are difficult to identify. Unfortunately, the lack of awareness spells disaster.
The stroke victim may suffer severe brain damage when people nearby fail to recognize the symptoms of a stroke.
Now doctors say a bystander can recognize a stroke by asking three simple questions :

S * Ask the individual to SMILE ..
T * = TALK. Ask the person to SPEAK A SIMPLE SENTENCE (Coherently) (eg 'It is sunny out today').
R * Ask him or her to RAISE BOTH ARMS .

If he or she has trouble with ANY ONE of these tasks, call the ambulance and describe the symptoms to the dispatcher.

NOTE : Another 'sign' of a stroke is
1. Ask the person to 'stick' out their tongue.
2. If the tongue is 'crooked', if it goes to one side or the other that is also an indication of a stroke.

i love this story verymuch..

A man came home from work late, tired and irritated, to find his 5-year old son waiting for him at the door.

SON: "Daddy, may I ask you a question?"

DAD: "Yeah sure, what is it?" replied the man.

SON: "Daddy, how much do you make an hour?"

DAD: "That's none of your business. Why do you ask such a thing?" the man said angrily.

SON: "I just want to know. Please tell me, how much do you make an hour?"

DAD: "If you must know, I make 500rs an hour."

SON: "Oh," the little boy replied, with his head down.

SON: "Daddy, may I please borrow 200rs?"
The father was furious, "If the only reason you asked that is so you can borrow some money to buy a silly toy or some other nonsense, then you march yourself straight to your room and go to bed. Think about why you are being so selfish. I work hard everyday for such this childish behavior."

The little boy quietly went to his room and shut the door.

The man sat down and started to get even angrier about the little boy's questions. How dare he ask such questions only to get some money?

After about an hour or so, the man had calmed down, and started to think: Maybe there was something he really needed to buy with that 50rd and he really didn't ask for money very often. The man went to the door of the little boy's room and opened the door.

"Are you asleep, son?" He asked.

"No daddy, I'm awake," replied the boy.

"I've been thinking, maybe I was too hard on you earlier" said the man.

"It's been a long day and I took out my aggravation on you. Here's the 200rs you asked for."

The little boy sat straight up, smiling. "Oh, thank you daddy!" He yelled.

Then, reaching under his pillow he pulled out some crumpled up bills.

The man saw that the boy already had money, started to get angry again. The little boy slowly counted out his money, and then looked up at his father.

"Why do you want more money if you already have some?" the father grumbled.

"Because I didn't have enough, but now I do," the little boy replied.

"Daddy, I have 500rs now. Can I buy an hour of your time?

Please come home early tomorrow. I would like to have dinner with you."

The father was crushed. He put his arms around his little son, and he begged for his forgiveness.

We never understand how important our time is for our loved ones. They are the real treasure we have. Try to cherish them. Money can never take their place.

Maybe. .
we were supposed to meet the
wrong people before meeting the right
one so that, when we finally meet the
right person, we will know how to be
grateful for that gift.

Maybe . . .
it is true that we don't
know what we have until we lose it,
but it is also true that we don't know
what we have been missing until it
arrives.

Maybe . . .
the brightest future will
always be based on a forgotten past;
after all, you can't go on
successfully in life until you let go
of your past mistakes, failures and
heartaches.

Maybe . .
you should hope for enough
happiness to make you sweet, enough
trials to make you strong, enough
sorrow to keep you human, and enough
hope to make you happy.

Maybe . . .
the happiest of people
don't necessarily have the best of
everything; they just make the most of
everything that comes along their way.

Maybe .. . .
the best kind of friend is
the kind you can sit on a porch and
swing with, never say a word, and then
walk away feeling like it was the best
conversation you've ever had.

Maybe . . .
happiness waits for all
those who cry, all those who hurt, all
those who have searched, and all those
who have tried, for only they can
appreciate the importance of all the
people who have touched their lives.

May be . .
you should do something nice
for someone every single day, even if
it is simply to leave them alone.

Maybe . . .
there are moments in life
when you miss someone -- a parent, a
spouse, a friend, a child -- so much
that you just want to pick them from
your dreams and hug them for real, so
that once they are around you
appreciate them more.

Maybe....
giving someone all your love
is never an assurance that they will
love you back. Don't expect love in
return; just wait for it to grow in
their heart; but, if it doesn't, be
content that it grew in yours.

Maybe .. . .
you should dream what you
want to dream; go where you want to
go, be what you want to be, because
you have only one life and one chance
to do all the things you dream of, and
want to do.

" Wrong Number - A Beautiful Story"

It was the day of my son's XII results and I was so tensed. I sat beside him while he logged on the website with his registration no. "Ma", he screamed in excitement, "I scored 1191, with centum in 4 subjects." I can't believe it. "I kind of became numb in my excitement.. My eyes became wet. I kissed him on his forehead and smiled."

Soon we realized that he stood first in the state. Oh, my joy knew no bounds when Reporters and media persons soon swamped my house for interviews and photos. I was so honored to join him in the snaps.

I wanted to call my "wrong-number- friend" to tell him the news...... I was so excited. He was someone whom I have known for more than 20 years.

I still do not remember when we became friends, but certainly cannot forget the first day he called me When I blasted him for giving me so many wrong calls..... After that he had called up a week later asking apology, for he had now got the right no of his friend whom he wanted to talk to .We spoke for an hour that day...even without knowing each other's names. Though he kept pestering me to reveal my name I never did and so he kept a name...Sweety. I used to get so shy whenever he called me 'Sweety'. I was doing first year of BSc. Maths then, and he was a Computer Engineering student.

>From then he used to call me very often. We almost discussed everything.

By the final year of my college, we probably we were in love, but I had been cautious. I was in a dilemma whether to tell him. But what if he was of a different religion? Do I have the courage to talk to my parents about it? ........all these questions ran through my mind.

I decided I'll not talk to him thereafter. When he called next time I laid to him I that I was going to Delhi for my post graduation. He gave me his office number and asked me to ring him up once I reach there. I never called...... .

A couple of months later my marriage got fixed with a guy of my parent's choice. I was not happy but I did not complain; rather accepted it as an obedient daughter. At times I felt I missed my wrong- number- friend...... .

My hubby was a moody person; I have hardly spent any good time with him- but he was genuine indeed and never bothered my personal space. After 2 years we had a boy...Yet, I was not very happy with my married life...One day I happened to browse through my diary and found I still had my old friend's office phone no that he had given me. I dialed it and spoke with him. He said he was married and got a kid too. I was happy for him though in the bottom of the heart I felt bad that I could not marry him.

>From then I used to occasionally call him on that number. I never gave him mine as I felt that would put me in trouble... And till today I almost shared everything with him including my relationship with my hubby.....today I was so happy and I wanted to call him.

Just then I got a call. "Your husband met with an accident and died on the spot"

I banged the phone down. I broke. I did not call my friend.....I somehow started feeling guilty. I have never tried to talk to him properly when he was alive or moved close with him.... I felt I had been a bad wife........

A couple of years passed and one day my son brought home a Bengali girl and said they wanted to get married. I got them married as I did not want my son to go through what I did.

I decided to give my son his father's room and started clearing it. There was a phone book. I gently opened it to find,

"Wrong no Sweety - 26579785"!!! !!

God always puts the right numbers together. It's us who interpret it wrong!!!!!

*Thanks Anusha for sharing this*

Mobile in Water

na phone ivvala morning water lo padindhi...chala badha em cheyalo teliyadu mottam vidadisi endalo pettanu dealer daggariki vellali em avutundho choodali ...browse chestey ee kinda tips kanipinchayi useful ani ikkada post chestunna...

Precautions

Get it out of the water as soon as possible. The plastic covers on cell phones are fairly tight, but water can enter the phone in a short period of time, perhaps only 20 seconds or less. So grab your phone quickly! If you can't get to it in time, your best bet is to remove the battery while it is still under water. Water helps dissipate heat from shorts that can damage the phone, so most damage occurs when the inside of the phone is merely wet and there is a power source.

Don't Panic. Your phone will probably not be too damaged if you right away take it out of the water. While it's in the water, immediately take it out.

Remove the battery. This is one of the most important steps. Don't take time to think about it; electricity and water do not mix. Cutting power to your phone is a crucial first step in saving it. Many circuits inside the phone will survive immersion in water provided they are not attached to a power source when wet.

If you have a GSM carrier, remove your SIM card. Some or all of your valuable contacts (along with other data) could be stored on your SIM. To some people this could be more worth saving than the phone itself. SIM cards survive water damage well, but some of the following steps are unnecessary i.e. don't heat it. Just pat it dry and leave it aside until you need to connect your phone to your cellular network. (This step does not apply to CDMA carriers such as Verizon, Alltel, US Cellular, Sprint, etc.)

Dry your phone. Obviously you need to remove as much of the water as soon as possible, so you can save it from getting into the phone. Shake it out without dropping it, then use a towel or paper towel (ideally trying not to clog the wet paper in the gaps and grooves of the phone) to gently remove as much of the remaining water as possible. Dry the excess moisture by hand.

Remove any covers and external connectors to open up as many gaps, slots, and crevices in the phone as possible.

Use a vacuum cleaner if possible. Do not use a hair dryer (even on a "cold" mode) to dry out the phone, as this may force moisture further into the small components, deep inside the phone. If moisture is driven deeper inside, corrosion and oxidation may result when minerals from liquids are deposited on the circuitry. Using a hairdryer might be a temporary fix, but this will eventually cause component failure inside the phone. Instead, remove all residual moisture by drawing it away with a vacuum cleaner held over the affected areas for up to 20 minutes in each accessible area. This is the fastest method and can completely dry out your phone and get it working in thirty minutes. Be careful not to hold the vacuum too close to the phone, as a vacuum can create static electricity, which is even worse.

Use a substance with a high affinity for water to help draw out moisture. Leave the phone in a bowl or bag of uncooked rice overnight. The rice would absorb any remaining moisture. If available, it is preferable to use desiccant instead.

Desiccant will absorb moisture better than rice. It may be found under a brand name such as the "BHEESTIE Bag™" "DRY-ALL" "Damp Rid" or "Dry Right".

Let the phone sit on absorbent towels, napkin, or other paper. Remember that the goal is to evacuate all the moisture and humidity, not to trap it or add even more.

Check the absorbent material every hour for 4 to 6 hours. If moisture is evident, repeat the vacuuming step and desiccant steps.

Test your phone. After you have waited a day or so, make sure everything is clean and dry looking and re-attach the battery to the phone and see if it works. If your phone does not work, try plugging it into its charger without the battery, if this works, you need a new battery. If not, try taking your cell phone to an authorized dealer. Sometimes they can fix it. Don't try to hide the fact that it has been wet. There are internal indicators that prove moisture.

Take the phone apart If your phone doesn't turn on at all. Try taking it apart. First, make sure that you have ALL the right parts and know exactly where they go. Be sure to put everything back in its proper place once finished. As you're disassembling it, pat each individual part dry with a small towel and use the vacuum cleaner once more on the crevices. If this doesn't work go to the professionals.

Warnings

Do not switch the phone on. This is important as it will prevent a charge from running from the battery to the phone which may subsequently cause the phone to short circuit.

Don't heat the battery or it could leak or explode. Lithium-ion batteries are sensitive. If you use an oven or hairdryer, make sure to remove the battery first.

If you use alcohol make sure to do so outside, and do not apply heat in any form, not even the gentle heat of a monitor. Do not hook up the battery until the alcohol smell dissipates.

Do not apply too much heat to your phone, as mentioned above. You don't want to melt or burn your phone.

Be warned that manufacturers of most modern cell phones place liquid damage indicator stickers that will change colors in the presence of a liquid inside their phones. This helps technicians know that you have dropped your phone in water, as most cell phone insurance coverage policies don't cover water damage. Chances are, if the sticker under the battery is triggered, then the internal stickers you can't access have probably been tripped as well. This will result in you paying a voided-warranty fee in the long run. You should be aware that warranties don't cover water damage, only insurance does, and even then, not all insurance companies or plans will honor water damaged phones. It is also worth noting that these liquid damage indicator stickers have been known to change colors in extreme humidity as well.

Even if all these steps are followed, minerals dissolved in the water can precipitate on solder and component pins, causing corrosion or shorting. Component pins are packed so closely together in modern cell phones that even a small encrustation can create a short, rendering the phone inoperable.

Do not put the phone (or any electronic or metal-containing object) into the microwave. You will destroy electronic components and potentially the microwave.

For the semi-mechanically inclined remove screws and as a minimum crack the case open to allow moisture to escape. Cell phones are normally somewhat water proof so they can be used in the light rain and humid environments. This means that once moisture has entered the phone it is very hard for it to dry out.

Removing your cell phone from the water quickly and IMMEDIATELY REMOVING THE BATTERY gives you the best chance of saving your phone.

If you do not want your cell phone to be damaged, keep it away as far as possible to any liquids.

Ayurveda's Approach to Obesity

| | | 0 comments
PS: ika meedata ee topic meeda posts veyyanu frnds...edo mundu chetulu kalchukunna kada anduke ee savarana..

In ayurvedic text, 'Charakacharya' has described eight 'nindya prakruties' (undesirable constitution) according to the body constitution. Among them he has also mentioned obesity. Obesity is described as 'Medoroga' in Ayurved. It is said that it is comparatively easy to help an underweight person, rather than an overweight person. The overweight problem can be due to an actual increase in the fat component (Meda Dhatu), or it can be due to malfunctioning. These, accordingly, will need different approaches. In very few cases it can be an offshoot of other metabolic disorders.

Body is made of 7- Dhatus {Rasa (Lymph), Rakta (Blood), Maans (Muscle), Meda( Fat), Asthi (Bones), Majja (Nervous System) Shukra (Reproductive System)}. But in Obese fellow Meda is excessively nourished and remaining other Dhatus get malnourished. Kapha gets accumulated in between. When Kapha increases in abnormal fashion, Fat metabolism gets hampered and person becomes Obese.

Roll of medicines with dietary correction is to remove obstructed Kapha and let all Dhatus nourish equally. It is not only the quantity of food that is important, but also the type of food one eats. It is not always necessary to go on a restricted diet, but qualitative changes and food habits can bring remarkable changes.

Treatment of Obesity

Prevention is better then cure. You must take precautions rather following treatment after increase in weight. Once you are obese it is difficult to treat yourself.

*Avoid excess eating, eating during indigestion or just after taking pervious meal.
*Avoid day sleeping; sleep in the night after one hour of your dinner.
*Do regular exercise like brisk walking (at least), running, swimming etc. avoid
sedentary and lethargic lifestyle.
*Avoid eating excess sweets. Have lowfat /skim dairy products. Avoid product like
chocolates, ice creams, cheese, paneer, sugar etc.
*Take non-vegetarian food like chicken, fishes, eggs, meats etc. in moderate
quantity. Remove fat from meat & skin from chicken.
*Try to minimise excess oil & ghee in cooking, Use a non-stick pan for cooking.
avoid hydrogenated vegetable oils, Instead of frying things try to consume roasted
things & change your cooking techniques a little. Grill or bake food instead of
frying, cook vegetables without fat by steaming and boiling.
*Use lowfat spreads and chutney on bread instead of butter and cheese.
*Don't consume excess alcoholic drinks or water on empty stomach.
*Avoid aerated drinks and excess water after meal.
*Intake of fat and carbohydrates should be restricted.

Medicinal Treatment
The Ayurvedic approach to drugs in general is quite different from what we've been used to. Herbal supplements can be of great benefit in weight control without the negative side effects of conventional drugs. With the diet therapy alone, the treatment of obesity is incomplete. Diet can avoid the further possibilities of obesity, but the fat has to be treated and the defective metabolism must be corrected, which is done by Ayurvedic medicines. These medicines improve fat metabolism in an obese individual. Once a person's metabolism is correct it is easy for him to maintain his weight.

Some useful remedies -

Use of guduchi, devadaru, musta, triphala, takrarishta (a fermented preparation of butter milk) and honey is recommended.
Powder of yava and amalaka is an excellent formulation for the same.
Shilajita alongwith the juice of Agnimatha works good.
Take honey water early in the morning.
Take powder of Vidanga, Sunthi, Yavakshara, Yava, Aamalaki and 'Loha (iron) Bhasma'.

Some generally used preparation for obesity are as follows :
Triphala Guggulu, Medohar Guggulu, Arogya Vardhini, Chandraprabha vati , Kumbhajatu.

But remember this is supplementary to dietary changes stated above. You should give up sedentary life style and gradually increase physical exercise and mental work.

Seeing the stick-thin models walking down the ramps, people have gone crazy to shed their weight at any cost. But the current lifestyle and eating habits have infused fat in human bodies. Though there are many treatments and weight loss diets available in the market, it's always better to lose weight in a natural way. Weight reduction should not be done in haste as it may cause adverse effects, leaving body weak and deprived of essential nutrients. Reducing weight without comprising on the health is the best way to keep the body vigorous. Through effective and easy weight loss diets, people can get rid off those chunks of bulging fat. Scroll down to know about some weight loss plans.

Liquid Diet
It is a diet comprising of clear or full liquids, but no solid foods. Liquid diet is often suggested in gastrointestinal illness; however, it is an effective way to lose weight. In this diet, people usually take either weight loss milk shakes available in the markets, or juices, shakes suggested by a dietician or nutritionist. The diet may include meat or vegetable broth, clear fruit juices, clear carbonated drink, milk, milkshakes, fruit nectar with pulp, smooth cooked cereals, or fruit or vegetable juice.

Food Combining Diet
Food combining diet is a diet in which certain foods are combined to ensure optimum digestion. Through this diet, the body effectively utilizes the nutrients present in the foods. This diet is based on the theory that different food groups call for different digestion times. Following the diet, digestion is helped by having foods which require approximately the same digestion time. Like proteins and starches should not be taken at the same time. However, proteins can be eaten with vegetables and starches can be combined with vegetables.

Grapefruit Diet
It is perhaps the most controversial weight loss diet plan across the world. Grapefruit diet calls for eating half a grapefruit or drinking grapefruit juice with every meal. Since grapefruit has low calories, this diet significantly helps to reduce caloric intake, usually below 800 calories per day.
