STEPS TOWARDS ACHIEVING SUCCESS IN EXAMS

Every person has his own way of studying to achieve success in exams. Some like studying in the early morning, some like to do late nights, some like studying all through the year while some believe that last minute study is effective. Whatever your method is it is always better to be thoroughly prepared for your exams and there should not be a last minute rush. Today we are presenting before you some steps of effective study and it is our belief that you will benefit a lot from it.

STEP 1
Read through all the materials and all the chapters, including class notes, text chapters and any handouts the professor has distributed. Read carefully, paying special attention to any underlined sections you may have marked. Do not leave any chapter because probably the question carrying the maximum marks may come from that chapter.

STEP 2
Evaluate the test questions of previous years and the question paper sets. Mark and write down the most repeated questions and the marks they contain. This will give you a general idea of the most important areas that you have to cover. This will also help you come to know the mind frame of the paper setter and will help you give importance to some chapters which requires more consideration rather wasting time on unnecessary topics. But that doesn't mean that you can leave other topics. Try to cover the most chapters as far as possible.

STEP 3
Now that you have the materials in front of you start preparing your own notes. This will be most helpful because it will make you aware of the particular topic and if the notes are made by you, you will always remember it and memorizing it will not be a problem. Generate questions to focus studying. Write down their answers. Exam questions don't just ask you to recite back information you have learned. They often ask you to think about that topic in several ways and you have to be prepared for all possible questions in all possible forms.

STEP 4
The next step is reciting and recalling. This is the most important part of studying. You want to memorize as much relevant information as you can. Then close the book or cover your notes and summarize the main points. Practice recalling important concepts and definitions. Keep doing this everyday so that you don't forget what you have read. At the end of the day sit in your room, close your eyes and then try to summarize what you have studied the whole day.

STEP 5
The last step is going back and reviewing all the materials again, all the topics and all-important sections. This helps to fix the information in your long-term memory. Now, you should be able to answer all the questions you posed to yourself. If you can't, review again. Make sure you understand the concepts, don't just memorize names and details. Try to understand the logic behind it and I am sure you will not face any difficulties anymore.

Apart form these important steps here are a few general tips that will help you in your study strategy:

Get all relevant info
Get all the information you can about the test before you study. Be it your class tests or competitive test or any other tests you are planning to appear in. You should also know how specific the test would be. Thus be prepared and know what to expect.

Review Habitually
It's a good idea to review your class notes right after you've written them and then again, just before the next class. Make sure you understand the concepts you've illustrated. This way you will be ready with the topic and if you have any difficulty you can approach the professor right on.

Exam Review
Start studying for the exam early. Don't do that last minute study because then you are bound to miss out on many topics and though you might pass but you will not be able to secure the percentage that will be helpful in getting admission for higher studies in reputated colleges. If you have a large amount of material to cover, try dividing it into smaller chunks and start studying the most difficult sections first. Go over that material just before the test, so it's fresh in your mind. To fix it in your memory, practice recalling the information aloud or try explaining it to someone else or discuss the topic with your friends.

Take proper rest
Generally, it's not advisable to stay up all night. Learning diminishes with fatigue and you'll think more clearly if you're rested properly. If you do stay up late, give yourself frequent breaks to keep your mind alert. Study but don't kill yourself.

Chill out
Don't exert yourself too much. Just relax and keep your cool. Excessive anxiety will reduce your ability to think clearly. Get to your class early and use those minutes to unwind. Chances are, if you have given yourself adequate preparation, you'll feel better about the test before you take it.

EDUCATION- IS A MUST

Education is an important factor in a person's life. Especially for women it is a must. It is very much essential for women to be literate and to be able to read and write in order to be able to live life with dignity and self-esteem. No matter if we have stepped into the 21st century then also still a woman is treated with contempt and dis-respect. Even today she is considered a chattel something which is there for the enjoyment of men and hence it becomes very necessary for women to educate themselves in order to survive and fight all the obstacles that she has to face.

"Literacy is pivotal to human progress. All agree that the single most important key to development and to poverty alleviation is education. Adult education, literacy and lifelong learning must be combined with the fundamental recognition that education of women and girls is central to development". World Bank President, James D. Wolfensohn, while speaking on the occasion of the World Literacy Day - September 8 , 1999.

Did you know that India still has about 300 million illiterates out of a global illiterate population of around 1 billion. This means that around 1/3rd of the world's illiterates live in India! That is shameful. India is the second most populated country in the world. We have the infrastructure and the resources. We have given this world so many great scientist and great personalities then it is shameful for us to be rated so low as far as the literacy level of the world is concerned. Why is it so? Has any one ever wondered?

Education is important not only for ensuring that you make a great career, but also for inculcating accepted values and principles in your life so that you can lead your life as a person and you learn to respect and love fellow humans. Respect for elders and love for your young ones, knowing about your country and your life, knowing about the mystical world of science is all possible only if education is a reality in your life. As a person you have to see that you help other also acquire this great power. Try to contribute.

Thus if you want to see your country progress and be the most successful country in the world you have to be educated and also try to educate people. Make the best use of the facilities given to you and pass on the legacy to the coming generation - that it is education and nothing but education that will pave the way for a better future for mankind. Make it a point to educate at least 12 illiterate persons in a year and thus contribute towards eradicating illiteracy from our country. Women who have free time should devote their time in educating illiterate persons and you can begin by teaching your maidservant to read and write. Tell her; enlighten her why it is so important to learn to read and write and advice her to send her children to school if still she hasn't. This is your chance……so don't waste it. Do something for your country. Help India eradicate illiteracy and strive towards success.

Overcoming Premarital Jitters

Edho chinna pratyanam antey naku anni telusu ani kadu..hope you will like this..naku peddavallu cheppinavi and with the help of net..i m posting this..

Wedding is round the corner. You feel elated and excited to start a new life with your partner. But deep down there you are a little frenzied, you are nervous and there is an unknown fear inside. It becomes difficult for you to understand where all your anxieties are coming from. Many questions keep disturbing you such as:

What if the marriage doesn't work well?

What am I getting myself into?

Am I taking the right decision…..should I wait a bit?

Is this person I am marrying right for me

Well no matter how much you are in love with the person you are marrying it is quite natural to be nervous before taking the major step of your life.

Therefore I have brought few tips to overcome premarital fears and tensions.

Sit with your Fiancée and have a heart-to-heart talk. Good communication is the cornerstone of a happy marriage. Reflect upon what you enjoy most about each other. The factors that make you think you'll be happy together and what is really important to you in life and love. Tell him how much you love him and look forward to your future together. But also get your fears and anxieties out.

Go to a quiet place to 'listen' to your feelings away from the pressures of the forthcoming wedding.

Talk to couples who have survived and celebrated many years of marriage. They can be a good source of support and great role models.

Set aside some time before the wedding to spend a romantic evening with your partner away from the entire wedding talk and plans.

Remember and accept the fact that no matter how well you know each other, life after marriage changes with new responsibilities and duties coming in. Thus getting pre-wedding jitters is normal.

Sit down in a quiet place - do some deep breathing - get in tough with your feelings and what your heart wants and needs.

Observe some possible changes that may have taken place or that you have discovered since the engagement. Is your partner exhibiting a different behaviour or engaging in activities you disapprove of? These are things that should be addressed before you proceed with the wedding plans.

Start drinking more water instead of caffeine and sugar-loaded liquids. Reduce salt intake. Caffeine, sugar and salt cause chemical reactions to your nervous system by making you jumpy, nervous and high-strung.

Laughing and singing are great ways to reduce the stress.

Following Exercises will also help you remain calm and composed:

Do leg and arm stretches to help tone and to remove built-up tension from your muscles.

Take a brisk walk. The more energy you use, the more stress you rid yourself of.

While walking, place three fingers just below your naval, pressing in gently while breathing in and out. This exercise helps increase energy, reduce toxins and keeps you more focused. Repeat 10 times.

Take a few moments each day, preferably at night before going to sleep, and do breathing exercises. Breathing deeply, in a rhythmic fashion, helps to relax your mind, body and nervous system.

The ancient art of yoga is extremely beneficial in reducing everyday stress. Sit in a chair with feet hip distance apart. Assume the chin mudra (hand posture) with hands on knees, palms up. Close your eyes, take a deep breath. Now count to six with each inhales and exhales.

This simple exercise for releasing tension from the neck and back can be done anytime : Bring shoulders up to ears, squeeze hard, then drop. Repeat 10 times.
Following are some more tips to relieve tension on those busy days surrounding your wedding:

Dim the lights in the bathroom and take a nice, hot bath.

Aromatherapy is an easy at home treatment that's inexpensive and totally relaxing. A favourite scent-try lavender essential oil - added to the bath or mixed with lotion for an effect that's calming and not sedating.

Soak in a tub ful of bubbles and feel tensions melt away.

Use a dry bristle brush or loofah, work small brush strokes on the bottom of justify foot, then move up justify leg. Repeat on right side. Use a circular motion on hip area. Work up from justify hand and arm in same way.

Close your eyes and imagine yourself in a very soothing and pleasant spot or situation. This helps bring your body and brain into a fluid state

Manicure

Things you require for Manicure:

Nail scissors
Emery board (nail file)
Buffer and buffing paste
Cotton wool and buds
Tissues
Enamel remover
Small dish with diluted disinfectant (dettol)
Orange stick
Cuticle knife
Cuticle nippers
Cuticle cream
Cuticle remover
Small bowl for soaking your hands
Moisturiser
Base coat
Coloured Enamels
Topcoat

MANICURE PROCEDURE

1. First make sure that your hands and nails are clean. Remove any old enamel that
you may have on your nails with the cotton wool and enamel remover.

2. Decide on what shape you would like on your nails, cut them if needed, and then
use your emery board to file them. File your nails into the most crack-resistant
shape: a square with rounded corners.

3. Take a cotton bud and remove a very small amount of buffing paste from the pot
and smear on the top of your nail. With the buffer, buff your nails. To get a
natural shine, use a buffer that offers three or four polishing textures. Start
with the coarsest surface and end with the finest one.

4. With another cotton bud, remove a small amount of cuticle cream and apply to the
cuticle of each nail. Massage this in circular movements.

5. Soak your hands in warm soapy water containing an anti-bacterial liquid soap.

6. Dry your hands carefully pushing back the cuticles with the towel.

7. Put a tipped orange stick into your cuticle remover and wipe over each cuticle
and push back each cuticle in circular movement.

8. Wet your cuticle knife to carefully lift the cuticle from the nail plate.

9. Use Cuticle nippers to remove excess cuticle.

10. Re-soak your hands then pat dry. It is important to remove cuticle remover from
your hands after application. Dry and apply a good moisturiser all over the hand
and arm up to the elbow, as this is a place everyone tends to forget.

11. Squeak clean the nails with cotton wool and enamel remover again to remove any
oil from the moisturiser that is left on the nail plate.

12. Now apply nail enamel. Don't shake your polish! Roll the bottle between your
palms (like Manicurists do) to get rid of the air bubbles and stir the enamel.

13. Apply your base coat and wait for it to dry. Pick your coloured enamel and paint
on, wait for the enamel to dry and apply the topcoat to coloured enamels. If you
do not wish to paint your nails then just quickly go over them again with the
buffer for a lovely shine.

14. One last thing, use your orange stick and enamel remover to remove all traces of
enamel left on the skin to make a really neat job.

A few important tips

* Eat a well balanced diet to get that shine on your nails.

* Apply hand cream after putting your hands in water, also as extra treat for them
at night apply a good moisturising cream.

* Use an oily enamel remover, as this will prevent moisture loss from the nail plate
and stop your nails drying out.

* Have regular manicures to maintain your nails. Or as I said before do one yourself!

* Wear gloves to protect your nails from detergents and chemicals, e.g. washing up,
also do not forget the cold outside and then there is the gardening and the
housework!

* Don't wait for polish to set. To speed-dry, run your nails under cold water-not a
blow-dryer-for three minutes after applying the final coat. Cold hardens enamel
faster than heat can.

* Never trim you nails right after taking a shower or bath. Water softens nails and
makes them shred during clipping.

Headache

Dealing With Headaches

Getting up in the morning with a headache is the last thing anyone wants. Yet most of the time after a stressful night you have a headache, which puts you down the whole day. Do you know that over 90% of all headaches are "tension headaches"? They are caused by excessive muscle contraction in the neck, face, shoulders, and/or scalp and are often caused by stress or being in one position for too long (such as in front of a computer). The hangover that you get after drinking the previous night cannot be termed as headache. But if you have been up the whole night working and didn't get enough sleep then you are sure to have a terrible headache the next morning. So all you have to know what causes a headache in order to keep away from it.

Causes of Headache

Considerable medical evidence suggests that headache is caused by an electrical and chemical instability of certain key brain centres that regulate blood vessels around the head and the neck, as well as the flow of pain messages into the brain. Over activity of muscles of the scalp, forehead and neck causes tension headache. This instability, similar to that which causes seizure disorders, seems to be inherited and appears to involve chemical messengers known as neurotransmitters.

Headache can also occasionally be caused by bleeding, tumour, or infection inside the skull, or else by diseases involving teeth, eyes, or sinuses. Flu or any sickness that causes fever can also cause headache. Such headache is known as secondary headache because it is due to--or secondary to--other problems. That is, the headache is only a symptom of some other disorder.

Following are the Trigger factors

Increased tension or stress (both mental and physical), for example:
Excessive worry
All work-no play
Long periods of study, typing or other concentration
Perfectionism
Increased tension in the neck muscles, for example:
Poor posture · Injuries to the spine
Repressed hostility, anger or frustration
A poor, scrappy diet, for example eating on the run (combined with stress) Swedish massage

If you suffer from one of these tension headaches, the following exercise may help alleviate some of your pain:

10-MINUTE MUSCLE RELAXATION EXERCISE

1. Sit in a comfortable chair or lie down.
2. Tense up all your muscles from head to toe; hold for a few seconds, then release.
3. Take three slow, deep breaths.
4. Close your eyes and imagine yourself completely at ease - calm and serene.

This will help ease the stress and tension you feel in the muscles of your neck, face, shoulders, and/or scalp. By relaxing your muscles you are allowing them to rest and avoid being constantly contracted.

Other tips to avoid headaches in the first place:

1.Don't skip meals.
2.Learn to relax your mind and body.
3.Get plenty of sleep every night.
4.Restrict/avoid alcohol and nicotine.
5.Watch your back, shoulder, and neck posture - avoid staying in one position for
too long a time.
6.Get organized to avoid hurry and worry.
7.During an attack relax by taking a hot shower or bath with a warm dry cloth or a
cold wet cloth placed over the aching area.
8.Get some brisk exercise to help you relax - remember to stretch before and after
each exercise session.
9.Enjoy a professional massage to help loosen tired muscles and create an overall
relaxed state.
10.You could attend special relaxation courses such as yoga or meditation classes.
